Preface by piman, 2000.01.17:
As we all know, Stargazer wrote this as a joke over a year
ago. However, it's survived 5 distribution changes, 9 reformats,
1 low-level format, a new HDD, and 2 box changes. Makes you
wonder if there's something sinister behind it all... Oh yeah, I
took the liberty of reformatting some of the HTML for
this. Anyway, I think I'll start making sure this stays around
for a while (of course, then I'll probably lose it).
Sure, we all know RHAD stands for Red Hat Advanced Development. But, under excruciating circumstances, I have come to believe there may be another option. One that would represent a true conspiracy, World Domination™, and the poisoning of the good Linux and MZX communities...
Yes, you heard me right. After a chat in IRC, I came to believe that RHAD stood for a greater evil -- the Red Hat/Autumn Dreams coalition. Think about it:
Red Hat represents an entrance for the corporate world into the Linux community. While this is currently good, it poses an obvious threat -- the commercialization of Linux. For evidence, consider the following:
Frightening, isn't it? Luckily, no new incidents have occurred since this terrible act of advertising. However, what if they were in cahoots with...
Autumn Dreams, provider of higher standards for MZX? It's their fault that we don't have newbies! It's their fault that newbies want FMV! It's their fault the MZX 2.7 wishlist is so damn huge! Currently, MZX is still surviving but it could get worse! Consider the following evidence, gathered just this morning in #nr:
*** Join: Ibrahim (nono@vw-9215.clarityconnect.net) *** Mode change "+v Ibrahim" by ChanOP [Stargazer] Eh? [Ibrahim] Stargazer: Alright, what's with the funny business telling everyone about AD's plans to conquer the world with Redhat? [Stargazer] MWAHAHAHAHA! * Pim is away: (bbl, at media play) [BX-MsgLog On] [Stargazer] You shall be conspirast monopolists no more, evil scum! [Stargazer] The good of the Linux penguin must shine! [Stargazer] It's lynx-compatible, too, so everyone will know your horror! [Ibrahim] don't matter it's too late! [Stargazer] It is NEVER too late! [Ibrahim] See, we're on the inside track [Ibrahim] AD will soon have MZX out the door and all the Linux people will fall in love with it, soon with 2.9 we will have eliminated Pim, Mental, Kev, and the other developers (through any means!) and RedHat will develop new Code for MZX, code that will erase previous games, and make system level changes to make only MZX run! [Ibrahim] Then MZX 3.0 will cease to be open source, but people will play it anyway, and it will automatically secretly install a new OS, known as ADix or ADHat Adix. [Ibrahim] And that will also be closed source! [Ibrahim] And you fewls will be stuck because MZX is the onyl game that works on linux and you will upgrade, and play and play and play! [Ibrahim] and then when we have the entire linux community under our heel, we will sell out to MS! [Stargazer] Evil bastards! *** Quit: Pim (Ping timeout for Pim) [Stargazer] Are there any other tricks you have up your sleeve? [Ibrahim] Yes! Many! But it's hopeless for you! [Ibrahim] muwahaha! [Stargazer] Yay, evidence. :) [Ibrahim] It won't help! [Ibrahim] There is nothing you can do!
THE COALITION COULD BE PURE EVIL. When Autumn Dreams increases standards for Linux, they'll require more people to develop it -- creating evil bloatware! This makes Red Hat Linux more attractive to PHBs, causing a significant drop in the average IQ of the Linux community! Think of how badly that will reflect upon us!
Meanwhile, this will in turn cause MZX 2.7 to work only with Red Hat Linux. While that's fine for Kev, what about all the Slackware users? If we didn't have Slackware, we wouldn't have this box, or a classic distribution, or S.u.S.E! Oh, the horror!
What can you do? Plenty! Boycott the two companies! Write their headpersons! Complain about them in #megazeux! Unless this act of evil is stopped, the world could end!
Addendum by piman, 2000.01.16:
As we all know, AD is gone now, and with them, the threat of Red
Hat's takeover. Likewise, this box no longer runs Slackware, but
Debian. However, a new evil is upon us. Arctic Fusion, the
bastard child of AD, has apparently infiltrated VA Linux
Systems. Don't believe me? Look at e.themes.org, the top theme
downloaded is arctic. Or that VA admits Debian is better, but
still ships with Red Hat on their systems! Something's
up... we're not quite sure what yet, but I'll report as news
comes in. Stargazer is going through hell to stick with Red Hat
and, as such, I believe he can no longer be trusted. They may
have gotten to him.
... better yet, do nothing. This whole page is a joke. Don't take it seriously.
